Land transportation is the main mode of transportation in Indonesia; therefore, the availability of reliable road infrastructure plays an important role in supporting mobility and goods distribution. The wearing course layer, known as Asphalt Concrete-Wearing Course (AC-WC), is the pavement layer that directly receives traffic loads and environmental effects, thus requiring materials with good characteristics, particularly aggregates as the dom-inant component. This study aims to evaluate the characteristics and performance of AC-WC asphalt mixtures us-ing local aggregates from Binongko District, Wakatobi Regency. The research method involved testing aggregate characteristics and designing asphalt mixtures using the Marshall method in accordance with the 2018 Bina Marga General Specifications. Asphalt content variations of 5%, 5.5%, and 6% were used with 60/70 penetration grade asphalt and continuous gradation. Laboratory testing was conducted at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of Universitas Dayanu Ikhsanuddin. The results indicate that the stability, flow, and other Marshall parameters of AC-WC mixtures incorporating Binongko aggregates generally meet the specification requirements. Therefore, local aggregates from Binongko District have the potential to be used as materials for AC-WC mixtures and can serve as an alternative local material to support cost efficiency and sustainable road infrastructure development, particularly in island regions.
